Okinawa Field Trip 4/22, 23, 29, 30
English follows Japaneseジョージタウン大学演劇学部のオンラインイベントに、パフォーマンスと音源提供で、参加しました。すばらしい役者でもある学生さんたちと共演できて、光栄でした。いつか、ワシントンでも沖縄でも、リアルで会えたらいいなと思います。
オンラインイベントは、ジュゴンのダグくんの引率で、アメリカの学生さんたちがバーチャル修学旅行に来る、という設定でした。沖縄の文化と歴史を紹介しながら、沖縄戦、ベトナム戦争などを振り返り、辺野古の現状を学ぶという内容でした。企画された小野田先生の思いに、ぼくは深く感動しました。世界中で、沖縄に関心をもつ人が増えることを願っています。
コロナのパンデミックで、ひどい状況になっています。でも、今だからできることも、きっとあります。オンライン化が進んで距離は問題でなくなり、世界の人とつながるチャンスが増えました。パンデミックという共通の経験を、ヘイトではなく、異文化理解につなげていくことが、これからの課題だと思います。ありがとうございました。

I participated in an online event at Georgetown University by performing and providing sound source. It was an honor to perform with the students, who are also wonderful actors. I hope to meet them in a real life someday, whether in Washington D.C. or Okinawa.
This project was set up as a virtual school trip for American students, led by Doug the dugong. The content of the event was to introduce the culture and the history of Okinawa, look back on the Battle of Okinawa and Vietnam War, and learn about the current situation in Henoko, Oura bay. I was deeply moved by Prof. Onoda's passion in planning this event. I hope that more people around the world will become interested in Okinawa.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, we are in a terrible situation. But I am sure there are things we can do now. Distance is no longer an issue as we go online, and we have more opportunities to connect with people around the world. Having experienced a pandemic, I think it is important for us to create a better future, not through hatred, but by deepening our understanding of other cultures. Thank you.
