MAKING THE BAND – TOGETHER WE GO-GO 11/16, 17, 19 (JST)
ジョージタウン大学のミュージカルにオンラインで出演しました。リアルタイムのセッションができればいいのですが、いまの技術では遅延の問題があるので、ぼくが「ハリクヤマク」「ひやみかち節」「唐船ドーイ」を演奏した動画に合わせて、後半２曲をバンドがコラボしてくれました。会場は盛り上がったと聞いて、嬉しかったです。
ミュージカルには、琉球古典舞踊の先生たちがカリフォルニアやハワイから参加して、GO-GOで踊る場面もありました。とても面白かったし、海外に移住しても沖縄の心を伝え続ける人たちがいるのは、すごいと思いました。
ミュージカルは GO-GOミュージックがテーマでした。GO-GOはワシントンD.C.で生まれたブラック音楽で、コールアンドレスポンスを多用し、ファンク、サルサ、ソウル、ゴスペル、ブルース、ラテン音楽のパーカッションとビートをミックスしています。
1980年代に麻薬と暴力が問題になり、GO-GOはスケープゴートにされました。クラブはバンドの入場を拒否したり、GO-GOバンドを生んだ学校が音楽教育プログラムを閉鎖せざるをえなくなったりしました。
2019年、GO-GOのホットスポットだった店舗が、近くの高級マンションの住人の苦情で、GO-GOを流さないようにしたことから、多くのワシントン市民が立ち上がりました。地域が再開発されると、市場価値が上がる一方で、それまでの住民が追い出されたり、文化的多様性が失われたりします。GO-GOは、そういった状況に対する、地元の抵抗の象徴になりました。#DontMuteDC
Washington Post によると、2020年2月、ワシントンD.C.の市長は、GO-GOをワシントンの公式音楽とする法案に署名しました。現在、GO-GOは、ワシントンの歴史と文化的重要性を表現するだけでなく、雇用を創出し、観光客を誘致し、芸術と創造性を育成することが期待されているそうです。
さまざまな問題がある中で、地元の文化と尊厳を守ろうとしているのは、アメリカの強さだと思いました。沖縄の音楽にも、共通する可能性があると思います。いつか現地でGO-GOを聴きたいです。貴重な機会をありがとうございました。

I appeared in Georgetown University's musical online. It would be great if we could do a real-time session, but current technology has problems with delays, so the GO-GO band played the latter two songs along with the video of me playing "Hariku-yamaku," "Hiyamikachi Bushi," and "Toshin doi." I was happy to hear that the venue was so lively.
There was also a scene in the musical where Ryukyuan classical dance teachers came from California and Hawaii to perform with GO-GO music. It was very interesting, and I thought it was amazing that Okinawans continue to convey the spirit of Okinawa even after moving overseas.
The theme of the musical was GO-GO music. GO-GO is a form of black music originating in Washington, D.C., with lots of call-and-response and mixes percussion and beats from funk, salsa, soul, gospel, blues, and Latin music.
In the 1980s, drugs and violence became a big problem, and GO-GO was made the scapegoat. Clubs refused to admit bands, and schools that produced GO-GO bands were forced to close their music education programs.
In 2019, many Washingtonians stood up after a store that was a GO-GO hotspot stopped playing GO-GO due to complaints from residents of a nearby luxury apartment complex. When an area is redeveloped, its market value increases, but at the same time traditional residents are forced out and cultural diversity is lost. GO-GO has become a symbol of local resistance to this situation. #DontMuteDC
According to a Washington Post article, in February 2020, the mayor of Washington, D.C., signed a bill making GO-GO the official music of Washington. Today, GO-GO is expected to not only represent Washington's history and cultural significance, but also create jobs, attract tourists, and foster art and creativity.
I believe that America's strength lies in its efforts to protect local culture and dignity amidst various social problems. I think that Okinawan music has something in common in terms of its potential. I want to listen to GO-GO in Washington D.C. someday. I appreciate this precious experience online. Thank you.

【熊本】結風ぬ宴 11/11
九州各地の創作エイサー団体が集うイベント「結風ぬ宴」に、U-maku Eisa Shinka Indonesiaの地謡として参加しました。
U-makuは、長旅の疲れを感じさせない、迫力ある演舞でした。パワーアップしていて、すばらしかったです。ぼくは「シンカヌチャー」「Wonderland Indonesia」、オリジナル楽曲「Garuda Ryukyu」の地謡をしました。
「Garuda Ryukyu」では、カチャーシータイムに、客席の皆さんがステージに上がって、カチャーシーを踊ってくださいました。熊本の山の中に、沖縄の風が吹いたようで、とても楽しかったです。ありがとうございました。
U-makuとは「また会おうね」と約束しました。U-makuは帰国後すぐ、ジャカルタで「ジャパン祭」という大きなイベントに参加します。” See you in Jakarta next year!” と声をかけてもらって、とても楽しみです。
大きなステージに、10チーム、数百人のメンバーが集結しました。このような大規模イベントが、また開催できるようになって、本当によかったです。関係者の皆さま、お疲れさまでした。どうもありがとうございました。

I participated in the event "Yuikaji nu utage" (the Bridge to Okinawa Festival) with U-maku Eisa Shinka Indonesia, where creative Eisa groups from all over Kyushu gather. I was happy to meet them. Three of them for the first time in two months, and two of them I saw for the first time!
U-maku' s performance was very powerful that didn't make us feel the long journey from Jakarta. It was amazing. I collobrated with them with "Shinkanucha", "Wonderland Indonesia", and my original song "Garuda Ryukyu".
Before and after the event, I traveled around Kyushu. I visited hot springs in Beppu, Yufuin, Kameyama, Kuju, and Yamaga. We drove around Aso, rode horses, and enjoyed the autumn leaves. I bought a large lantern at Nagasaki Chinatown. Kyushu has a lot of delicious food. I want to go there again.

チームの演舞には、それぞれ個性があるのが面白かったです。U-makuは「進撃の巨人」でも演舞しました。九州のチームには、伝統芸能の所作を取り入れた演舞もありました。芸能は伝播する中で、姿を変えていくのだと感じました。それは、芸能が生きものだからだと思います。
大きなステージに、10チーム、数百人のメンバーが集結しました。このような大規模イベントが、また開催できるようになって、本当によかったです。関係者の皆さま、お疲れさまでした。どうもありがとうございました。
旅行の前後は、九州を旅しました。別府、湯布院、亀山、久住、山鹿と、温泉をめぐりました。阿蘇をドライブして、馬に乗り、紅葉を楽しみました。長崎中華街で、大きな提灯を買いました。九州には、おいしいものがたくさんありました。また遊びに行きたいです。

During the kachashi time in "Garuda Ryukyu", many audience got on stage and danced kachashi. It felt like the wind of Okinawa was blowing in the mountains of Kumamoto, and it was so much fun. Thank you very much.
I promised U-maku that we would meet again. In fact, immediately after returning to Indonesia, U-maku will participate in a big event called "Japan Festival" in Jakarta. I'm really happy when U-maku said to me "See you in Jakarta next year!''

インドネシアのエイサー隊と琉球村で舞う！ 9/14
U-maku Eisa Shinka Indonesia が、数年ぶりに沖縄に来て、コラボステージをしました。琉球村のステージは、とても雰囲気がよくて、楽しかったです。 ぼくの楽曲「Garuda Ryukyu」をU-makuに踊ってもらえて、嬉しかったです。平日なのに、たくさんの方が来てくださって、感激しました。どうもありがとうございました。
平田大一さんがいらしたときは、びっくりしました。久しぶりに平田さんにお会いできて、すごく嬉しかったです。U-makuも大喜びしていました。ありがとうございました！

U-maku Eisa Shinka Indonesia came to Okinawa for the first time in several years and we enjoyed a collaboration stage "Dance with Indonesian Eisa team at Ryukyu Mura".
Ryukyu Mura has a great atmosphere and we enjoyed a lot. I was happy to have U-maku dance to my song "Garuda Ryukyu."
I was thrilled to see so many people come even though it was a weekday. Thank you very much. I was so surprised when I saw Mr. Daiichi Hirata. I was so happy to meet him for the first time in a while, and so was U-maku. We appreciate a lot.
For the Indonesian music "Wonderland Indonesia", we collaborated with sanshin. The performance, which incorporated movements from Indonesian dance, was very impressive.
Okinawa is said to have a so-called "chanpuru culture". The word "chanpuru" means "to mix" in Okinawan language. It comes from the Indonesian word "campur" (to mix). I felt that from ancient times to now, cultures are always influenced by each other and keep changing.
I first met U-maku at the World Eisa Convention 2017. Both me and U-maku were performing on different stages. In 2020, I was invited to U-maku's 18th anniversary online event and presented them my original song "Garuda Ryukyu" as a gift, and we became good friends.
When I was having a hard time due to the coronavirus pandemic, U-maku gave me lots of energy. I was really happy when we could finaly meet face to face, for the first time in a long time.
In November, we will be collaborating again on stage at "Yuikaji nu utage 〜Culutural Bridge to Okinawa〜" held in Kumamoto. If you are in the area, please come and enjoy together!

22歳になりました
誕生日メッセージありがとうございます。この一年は色々あり、創作する気力がありませんでした。このところやっとトンネルを抜けて、偶然の出会いや嬉しい再会が続いています。
9月はインドネシアの友達が沖縄に来て、コラボステージをします。3年前からずっとオンラインで連絡をとっていました。やっと対面で会えるのが、とても嬉しいです。
他には、中国の友達と新曲を制作中です。11月にはワシントンDCのイベントにオンラインで出演します。アフリカ系アメリカンの音楽とコラボするのは初めてで、とても楽しみです。
最近は、パンダの動画にはまっています。パンダは、寝たり起きたり、竹や笹を食べたり、登ったり落ちたりして過ごしています。感情が高ぶると、でんぐり返しをします。パンダの様子を見ていると、気持ちがなごみます。
パンダはもともと肉食でしたが、エサをめぐる競争から脱落して、大量に生えている竹を食べるようになったそうです。争いを避けるには、そのような生き方もあるのだなと思います。
パンダについては、2020年のアジア人差別のニュースを読んでいたとき、”DESTORY RACISM：BE LIKE A PANDA. HE’S BLACK, HE’S WHITE, HE’S ASIAN” というキャッチコピーを知って、面白いなと思っていました。パンダの生態を知って、そのキャッチコピーを読むと、さらに面白く思います。
いつか、中国の成都パンダ基地に行ってみたいです。感染症の心配なく、世界のどこでも気軽に行かれる日々が戻ってきますように！

Thank you for birthday message. I had a lot going on in my life this past year. I didn't have the energy to create music, but I'm finally feeling better now. These days, happy encounters and reunions continue.
In September, my Indonesian friends will come to Okinawa, and we are going to have a collaboration stage. I've been in touch with them online for 3 years. I am very happy to finally meet them face to face.
Other than that, I am working on a new song with my friend in China. Furthermore, I will be appearing online at an event in Washington DC in November. It's my first time collaborating with African American music, and I'm really looking forward to it.
Lately, I've been obsessed with panda videos. Pandas spend their time sleeping and waking, eating bamboo, climbing and falling. When they get emotional, they flip over. Looking at the pandas makes me feel relaxed.
Pandas were originally carnivorous, but they dropped out of the competition for food and began to eat the bamboo that grows in large quantities. I think they know the way to avoid conflict.
Regarding pandas, when I read the online news about discrimination against Asians in 2020, I also read the catch phrase "DESTORY RACISM: BE LIKE A PANDA. HE'S BLACK, HE'S WHITE, HE'S ASIAN", which left an impression on me. And I find it more interesting when I learned about panda's ecology.
Someday, I would like to visit the Chengdu Panda Base in China. I hope that the days will return, when we can go anywhere in the world without worrying about infectious diseases.

ぼくの楽曲が中国のアーティストにカバーされました
中国のシンガーの刘凡鹭さんが、「海的那边哟」をカバーして下さいました！ 自分の楽曲がカバーされたのは初めてだったので、とても嬉しいです。リリックビデオを作りました。ぜひご覧ください。
刘凡鹭さんは、遼寧省を拠点に活躍中です。これまで四川、安徽、福建の方たちと交流していますが、北方在住の方とつながったのは初めてで、とても嬉しいです。ありがとうございました。
Chinese singer 刘凡鹭 (Liu Fanlu) has covered my song "海的那边哟 (Dear my friend across the sea）”. It was the first time my song was covered, so I am very happy. I made a lyric video. Please take a look!
刘凡鹭 is based in Liaoning Province. I have interacted with people from Sichuan, Anhui, and Fujian so far. I am so happy to have my first connection with northerner in China! Thank you!

アジア麺ロード2022 12/18
第６回「アジア麺ロード」に出演しました。元総理大臣の鳩山友紀夫さんが、ぼくのライブを聴いてくださったのが、とても嬉しかったです。ぼくは、インドネシア、朝鮮半島、中国との交流をテーマに、「Garuda Ryukyu」「アリラン 沖縄語ver.」「海的那边哟〜遥かな友よ〜」を歌いました。
「海的那边哟〜遥かな友よ〜」に、ぼくは「山川 域を異にすれども 風月 天を同じうす」という口説を入れました。これはもともと、「山川異域 風月同天」という漢詩で、「住む場所は違っても、ぼくたちは同じ天の下にいる」という意味です。

I appeared live at the 6th "Asian Noodles Road Festival". It is an event to deepen international understanding through food culture. I sang "Garuda Ryukyu", "Arirang Okinawan ver.", "Dear my friend across the sea", with the respect of friendship between Ryukyu , Indonesia, Korea and China.
I was very happy that former Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama listened to my live performance. In my song "Dear my friend across the sea," which sings about the friendship between Okinawa, China, and Japan, I created the rap part which means "Even though we live in different countries, we are under the same sky and are illuminated by the same moon", based on an old Chinese poem.
In 2020, during the corona crisis, Mr. Hatoyama donated masks to Wuhan people and gave them a piece of colored paper in which he wrote that Chinese poem. After I wrote the rap part, I learned about that episode and was very moved. Mr. Hatoyama said to me, "Now is the time to get along with China." I deeply agree what he says. Mr. Hatoyama gave me the colored paper for that poem, and I really appreciate it!
The venue was "Chunzi Square" next to Fukushuen, where many Chinese people from Fujian lived during the Ryukyu Kingdom period. They introduced technology and culture to Ryukyu. It is said that the sanshin was born from the sanxian, which came from Fujian.
Living in Okinawa makes me think about the importance of peace. I think that it is important to come up with idea what we can do because of our position in Okinawa. One of my dreams is to connect American students and Chinese students with friendship through Okinawan culture. I hope I can do something to make my dream come true.

「海的那边哟〜遥かな友よ〜」に、ぼくは「山川 域を異にすれども 風月 天を同じうす」という口説を入れました。これはもともと、「山川異域 風月同天」という漢詩で、「住む場所は違っても、ぼくたちは同じ天の下にいる」という意味です。
鳩山さんは2020年、コロナ禍の武漢にマスクを寄贈して、「山川異域 風月同天」という色紙を贈りました。ぼくは楽曲を作ってから、そのエピソード を知って、とても感動しました。鳩山さんは、ぼくに「今こそ中国と仲良くしなければならないよね」と、おっしゃいました。本当にその通りだと思います。鳩山さんに「山川異域 風月同天」の色紙をいただいて、ものすごく嬉しかったです！
会場は福州園の隣の「チュンジー広場」で、琉球国時代は福建から移住した中国の人たちが、たくさん住んでいました。彼らは琉球に技術や文化を伝えました。福建からやってきた三弦から、三線が生まれたといわれています。
沖縄にいると、平和の大切さを強く思います。沖縄だからこそ可能なことは何か、考えることが大切だと思います。ぼくの夢の一つは、沖縄の文化を通して、アメリカの学生と中国の学生を友情でつなぐことです。その夢に向かって、ぼくに何かできたらいいなと思います。

I appeared live at the 6th "Asian Noodles Road Festival". It is an event to deepen international understanding through food culture. I sang "Garuda Ryukyu", "Arirang Okinawan ver.", "Dear my friend across the sea", with the respect of friendship between Ryukyu , Indonesia, Korea and China.
I was very happy that former Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama listened to my live performance. In my song "Dear my friend across the sea," which sings about the friendship between Okinawa, China, and Japan, I created the rap part which means "Even though we live in different countries, we are under the same sky and are illuminated by the same moon", based on an old Chinese poem.
In 2020, during the corona crisis, Mr. Hatoyama donated masks to Wuhan people and gave them a piece of colored paper in which he wrote that Chinese poem. After I wrote the rap part, I learned about that episode and was very moved. Mr. Hatoyama said to me, "Now is the time to get along with China." I deeply agree what he says. Mr. Hatoyama gave me the colored paper for that poem, and I really appreciate it!
The venue was "Chunzi Square" next to Fukushuen, where many Chinese people from Fujian lived during the Ryukyu Kingdom period. They introduced technology and culture to Ryukyu. It is said that the sanshin was born from the sanxian, which came from Fujian.
Living in Okinawa makes me think about the importance of peace. I think that it is important to come up with idea what we can do because of our position in Okinawa. One of my dreams is to connect American students and Chinese students with friendship through Okinawan culture. I hope I can do something to make my dream come true.

Sri Lanka - Okinawa MUSIC Program
スリランカの学校（Kibou International College / Vocational Training Institute）の皆さんに、沖縄の文化を紹介するオンラインイベントに出演しました。
ぼくのオリジナル曲を交えながら、スライドを使って、古琉球、近世琉球、近代沖縄、現代へ続く歴史をお話ししました。チャンドララール先生が、シンハラ語の翻訳をつけて下さいました。こういう試みは初めてで、ちょっと心配でしたが、熱心に聞いていただけて、ほっとしました。

I apeared in an online event to introduce Okinawan culture to Sri Lankan schools (Kibou International College / Vocational Training Institute).
Using my own original songs, I presented slides to talk about the history of ancient Ryukyu, early modern Ryukyu, modern Okinawa, and the present day. Prof. Chandralal has provided Sinhala translation. It was my first time to try something like this, so I was a little worried, but I was relieved when they listened intently.

沖縄タイムス「日中の学生 楽曲作り配信」10/4
10/4の沖縄タイムスで、沖縄/日本/中国の友情の歌「海的那边哟〜遥かな友よ」ミュージックビデオが紹介されました。すばらしい記事で、嬉しいです。
中国の学生さんとのコラボは、コロナ禍の中で、実現しました。コロナが始まったとき、中国人や、アジア人に対するヘイトが問題になりました。それぞれの国に、立場と主張と課題はありますが、ヘイトは何も解決しません。
ぼくは、中国に友達がほしいと思いました。中国のプラットフォームに投稿したら、たくさんの返信がきました。「東京出身で沖縄在住の日本人」という属性で、ぼく自身が判断される場面もありました。属性からは自由になれないけれど、属性を引き受けることによって、発することのできる言葉もある、と思いました。
張さんが歌詞を送ってくれたときは、感動しました。中国からは様々なコメントをいただいたので、「東西南北 果てない世界を 恐れず どこまで歩めるだろう」（日本語訳）という歌詞に、鳥肌が立ちました。信じることから生まれる世界もある、と、ぼくは思います。「風に乗って舞い また生まれ変わる 正しさも過ちも もう定かでない」という歌詞には、衝撃を受けました。このパートは、ぼくは歌ってはいけないと感じて、張さんに歌ってもらいました。
沖縄で暮らしていると、世界のニュースを身近に感じます。ぼくは小学生の頃、沖縄のレストランで、中国の川劇を見ました。次々とお面が変わっていくのを見て、びっくりしました。社長さんは、ぼくを一番前の席に座らせてくれました。そして、「政治を待つだけでなく、民間交流が大事だ」ということを言っていました。
ぼく自身、小さな取り組みができたことが、とても嬉しいです。移住した人、ミックスルーツの人、異文化を愛する人、社会には、文化の境目に立つ人が、たくさんいます。対話のチャンネルを増やすことで、どんな属性の人も、幸せに生きられるようになるといいなと思います。
よい経験をさせて下さった中国の皆さん、ミュージックビデオを楽しんでくださった皆さんに、感謝しています。ありがとうございました。

On October 4th, the Okinawa Times introduced the music video for the Okinawan/Japanese/Chinese friendship song "Dear my friend across the sea". I am grateful for the great article.
The collaboration with a Chinese student was realized during the covid-19 crisis. When pandemic started, hate against Chinese and Asians became a problem. Each country has its own positions, claims, and issues, but hate solves nothing.
The situation made me want to make friends in China. After posting on the Chinese platform, I received a lot of replies from Chinese. There was also a scene where I was judged because of my attribute of being “a Japanese living in Okinawa who was born in Tokyo”. I think that although we cannot be free from our attributes, there are words that we can convey with our own attributes.
I was moved profoundly when Mr. Zhang sent me the lyrics. As I received various comments from China, so I got goosebumps when I read the lyrics, "The map shows us the vast extent of the world
How far do I have to go to be brave?". I believe that there is a world brought to us only when we trust our good nature. And I was shocked when I read the lyrics, "Taking off with the wind and being reborn anew. Right or wrong, can't tell anymore." I felt that I should not sing this part, so I asked Mr. Zhang to sing it.
When I live in Okinawa, I feel familiar with the world's news. When I was in elementary school, I saw Chinese traditional performing arts, Sichuan opera at a restaurant in Okinawa. I was surprised to see the performer changed his masks one after another. The owner of the restaurant let me sit in the front seat. And he said, "Don't just wait for politics. International exchange at the private level matters.''
I myself am very happy that I was able to make a small effort. There are many people who stand on the border of cultures in our society, I mean, immigrants, mixed roots people, people who love different cultures. I hope that by increasing the number of dialogue channels, people of all attributes will be able to live happily ever after.
I am grateful to my friends in China who gave me a heartfelt experience and to everyone who enjoyed the music video. Thank you very much.

沖縄芸能チムドン！エキスポ 2022 10/1
世界のウチナーンチュ大会関連オンラインイベント「沖縄芸能チムドン！エキスポ 2022」（沖縄県主催）に出演しました。
「沖縄文化芸能指導者派遣事業」を通して、沖縄県がサポートを行った海外県人会の取り組みや成果と、沖縄への想いを紹介するYouTubeライブ配信番組で、世界各地の様子が見られて、とても楽しかったです。
ぼくは「沖縄芸能とアジアの交流」というテーマで出演しました。中国の大学生・張健輝さんと、福建師範大学閩琉エイサー隊の皆さんとの合同ミュージックビデオ「海的那边哟 ーはるかな友よ」を紹介していただきました。
中国の学生さんとのコラボは、コロナ禍の中で、実現しました。コロナが始まったとき、アジア人に対するヘイトがありました。ヘイトのない社会を作りたい、というのは、沖縄の心だと思います。

沖縄芸能のファンは、世界中にたくさんいます。エイサーも、世界中にファンがたくさんいます。沖縄芸能には、「故郷は地球」と思わせるような、魅力があるのだと思います。沖縄芸能は、琉球国時代、外交の道具でもありました。これからも、その伝統を現代につなげて、国際交流をしていきたいです。励まして下さる皆さん、どうもありがとうございます！

日中合同作品「海的那边呦 〜遥かな友よ〜」が完成しました。
「海を超える友情を歌おう」という、ぼくの呼びかけに、安徽の张健辉さんが詩とメロディを提供、福建师范大学闽琉太鼓队（エイサー団体）が友情出演して下さいました。ぜひご覧ください。
During the Ryukyu Kingdom era, performing arts were also a tool for diplomacy. In Okinawa, there is an idea that blessing in advance invites a beautiful future. Thoughts become songs and cross the sea. I believe in the future that friendship opens.
The first part of the chant lyric means "Even though we see different mountains and rivers, the winds and the moon are the same under Heaven". It is a passage entrusted to the envoy to Tang China by King Nagaya of Japan more than 1,300 years ago. Ganjin was moved by these words and came to Japan via Okinawa to preach Buddhism.
「海を超える友情を歌おう」という、ぼくの呼びかけに、安徽の张健辉さんが詩とメロディを提供、福建师范大学闽琉太鼓队（エイサー団体）が友情出演して下さいました。ぜひご覧ください。
琉球国時代、芸能は外交のツールでもありました。沖縄には、前もって祝福することで美しい未来を招くという思想があります。想いは歌になって、海を超えます。友情が拓く未来を、ぼくは信じています。
口説の「山川異域 風月同天」は、1300年以上前、日本の長屋王が遣唐使に託した漢詩の一節です。鑑真はこの言葉に心を動かされて、沖縄を経由して来日し、仏教を伝えました。
日本でも沖縄でも中国でも、月は遠い故郷や大切な友人を思い起こさせる象徴です。中秋の名月に、ミュージックビデオを公開できることに感謝します。どうもありがとう。
